1.Is there an Approval Process to be a Foster Home?
a.Yes. We carefully check all potential foster homes to make sure they will provide a safe, secure, and loved location for our little rescue dogs. You will be intereviewed. References are checked, this includes personal, Vet, and groomers. Plus, a home inspection is conducted to make certain it is a safe environment.
2.What does Foster Care entail?
a.Loving and caring for the dog as if it was your own. Including it in all the same family functions as your own dogs.
b.Evaluating the personality of each foster dog to determine what would be the best forever environment for it.
c.Feeding the rescue dog with the same foods you feed your own.
d.Arranging and transporting the foster dog to and from Vet Appointments, and other appointments as needed.
e.Making sure all necessary medications are administered properly, and the dog has all necessary vaccinations, plus a microchip.
f.Reviewing Adoption Applications to identify the ideal situation for each foster dog.
g.Performing Home Inspections with potential adopters.
h.Maintaining all documentation on Vet Records, microchips, Certificates of Vaccination, Spay/Neuter Certificates, and all other pertinent records for each dog.
i.Preparation of the Adoption Packet
j.Coordinating and conducting meet-and-greet meetings with potential adopters
k.Collecting Adoption Fees and mailing them to Foster Coordinators
3.Is there any support for Foster Homes?
a.Yes. Every geographic area has an Area Foster Coordinator who is our go-to person for all questions and help with coordination. In addition, we are a national organization with a National Director, who is available to assist, a Yahoo Group for updates and questions, and a huge network of loving Foster Homes who are always willing to help other Foster Homes.
4.Do any expenses come out of my pocketbook?
a.Yes. Foster Homes are responsible for food for the foster dog, and the cost of transporting dogs. Both of these expenses are usually tax-deductible, but check with your personal CPA to be certain.
5.What does AMAR pay for, for a foster dog?
a.AMAR pays for all Vet bills, vaccinations, surgeries, prescriptions, microchips, and a harness and a leash to go with the dog when they are adopted.
